In a room in an elegant London town house decorated with many paintings a May-December marriage contract is being concluded - the old gouty "royal" gentleman at left has "bought" a young bride - no doubt paying off her poor fathers mortgage with a bit of a "portion" to boot - he discusses the final details with two consulting attorneys - the bride is still being convinced of the rightness of the move by a somewhat oily gentleman who holds the crow quill pen for her signature - a man at right pinches snuff and looks at himself wistfully in a nearby mirror - two dogs leashed together in extreme lower right.
