Walter Joseph Phillips, known as Walter J. Phillips. Born in Barton-on-Humber, England 25 October 184, moved to Canada (Winnipeg, Manitoba 1913. Began making etchings and drypoints. 1915. First color woodcut 1917.Associate of Royal Canadian Academy 1921. One man show of color woodcuts in Denver 1924. Book, Technique of the Color Woodcut 1926.Exhibited at New York World's Fair 1939 . Moved to Banff and the Banff School of Fine Arts 1943. REtired to Victoria, B.C. 1959. Died in Victoria 5 July 1963.
