The 'Miseries of Human Life' is a collection of caricatures of awkward social situations encountered in every day life. It was usually bound as a collection of 50 plates, though this copy contains 72 plates and was apparently bound in the late nineteenth century. A number of the additional prints are from the 'More Miseries' series, or after the designs of Henry William Bunbury, and some are taken from other books illustrated by Rowlandson. Many are late impressions, possibly taken for this book.
