Scene at the edge of water, with dozens of boats small and large. On the shore are several groups of people, men and women. One group, on horses or in little carts, seems to be cheering as they look toward the boats. Another group, all on foot and fashionable dressed, appears to be just watching. The wooden pier leading out to the loading dock is filled with men watching the boats. Several smaller boats are pulled up to the loading dock; these are also filled with men. A small wooden house stands near the pier, and a viewing tower on tall wooden stilts holds several men with telescopes. Across the foreground is a line of men carrying corpses and injured bodies; a horse-drawn cart carries two men and another proceeds with crutches. Several nearby family groups watch their progress.
