Known as Sophie of Saks, she was the wife of SFA founder and president Adam Gimbel and created and designed for the Salon Moderne, Saks' premier designer department. In 1942, she hired Tatiana de Plessix, the miliner and wife of Conde Nast head Alex Lieberman, away from Henri Bendel(See separate entry for Tatiana). Her customers were celebrity socialites and film stars and she was known for the traditional elegance of her designs. The Salon Moderne was closed in the 1960s.
