Gift of Mrs. Florence Olmstead

Shawl with a four-armed, black ground "star" at the center bearing an inscription in Persian. Central panel is extremely fine, well woven, and well resolved with an unusual blue. The outer field is predominately red with two different foliate forms that overlay or cross each other in a way that somewhat recalls "bizarre" silks. The shawl is composed of a central field with separatedly woven end and side panels and separate side borders. The sides of the shawl pull in severely at the level of the central medallion. Detail image in file.
