A rather unique walrus ivory carving of a seal. This object is cross cultural in that it combines the classical Nunivak Eskimo style rendering of a seal but utilizes the “on the back” form most commonly seen in Aleut carvings of an otter. It was most probably an inlay of a ceremonial square wooden container with the “plaque” being attached to the top. Note: The TGF collection number is located on the back panel lower center.
