Printed in letterpress below 1), "Inverlochy Castle, Loch Eli. Here we are made to forget the want of interest in a mountain by having our attention directed to a castle which, though not very much in itself, is of the greatest possibly pictorial value in a drawing".
2) Printed below: "Caslte Urquhart, Loch Ness. This castle is merely a small peel or keep, but it is of great use here in hiding a considerable portion of the lake (of which otherwise we should have had too much), and yet we feel the size of the lake as perfectly as if none of it had been hidden".
The artist's monogram within images "PHG".
