Painted scene of peasants dancing to the music of tambourine and fiddle. Holes left in the guards probably held precious stones. On the reverse shows a scene of the harbor of Naples with the lighthouse at the end of the Molo Grande. Sticks are made of carved mother-of-pearl with silver and gold leaf. Numerous settings for missing stones. Source: Bennett, Anna G. "Fans in Fashion." Rutland, Vermont: Charles E. Tuttle Co., 1981 p. 38.
