Museum purchase, Jay D. McEvoy Memorial Fund
The clay is from Zapatecas. Slab and coil construction with applied oxide colored slips. Relief design is made by applying a cut-out slab layer over the base form. The sculpture is made in sections that are hollow. There is metal armature that runs up the inside although it does not go right up to the top of the object; the pieces slot over and on to this.
