Born Tatiana Yakovleva, she was the lover and muse of the Revolutionary poet Vladimir Mayakovsky. She fled the Russian Revolution to Paris, where she married the diplomat Bertrand du Plessix. After his death, she married the painter (and later Conde Nast executive) Alexandre Liberman and they made their home in New York. She was a well-known fashion personality, and as a milliner, she became famous as Tatiana of Saks. Her daughter is the writer Francine du Plessix Gray, who has written a contentious memoir of her parents.
