Firm established 1971. Studied at the University of Arts at Tama, apprenticed with Givenchy. Known for his fine arts, high-tech approach to textiles and clothing, he retired in 2002, but the firm continues. The current designer (since 2006) is Dai Fujiwara. Miyake himself still devotes himself to textile experimentation.
