A portrait of Jacques Mathias Schmutzer, founder of the school of engraving at the Academy of Beaux Arts in Vienna. A very romantic depiction of Mr. Schmulzer. He sits in a decorative chair and holds a carrying case for prints under one arm and a pen in his right hand. His shirt collar and cuffs are lacy, his robe is velvet, his vest embroidered. He has what may be a wig with curls at the ears and is clean shaven. In the background are two figures both female in model poses. (Rozell Overmire 04/28/94)
