Central field with boteh motifs and floral borders. Piece has been lined for use as a cover.Large quantities of printed Bengal handkerchiefs were exported to the US in the early 19th century. They are the precursors to the familiar American cotton bandana (from the Hindi term for 'to tie'). See Asian Art & Culture Spring/Summer 1996, p. 61.
