A crowd has gathered in a semi-circle on a sidewalk in front of a men's clothing store--neckties and shirts in the window. A young man leans against the edge of one of the windows. He is outside standing in a pool of light, cast by the brightly lit store interior. It is late Fall. The leafless form of a tree frames the left side of the scene, as the crowd in heavy overcoats, some with fur collars and hats, stands quietly looking toward the young man and the storefront. A young woman clasping a bag of groceries either steps forward into the pool of light or suddenly stops her forward momentum as she reaches the front edge of the crowd. Her position is ambiguous.
