James Renner was born in San Diego in 1956. His work as a printer at Brighton Press brought him in contact with the editorial as well as the artistic side of fine-press publishing. His selection of the Dylan Thomas short story The Mouse and the Woman was the result of his long-standing interest in the poet's work. Renner's extensive study of the life and art of Rico Lebrun led him to the project, In the Meridian of the Heart, a collection of Lebrun's letters for future publication by Brighton Press. Renner is a painter and creator of one-of-a-kind artist books as a form of expression. His work is held in the following collections: Amherst College; The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, La Jolla; California State University, San Diego; The Copley Library, La Jolla; Glamorgan County Library, Wales; the Huntington Library; Mills College; The New York Public Library; San Diego Public Library; Syracuse University; (From the biography supplied by Brighton Press, San Diego; see AFGA "Artist File."
