Three figures from classical mythology are lolling on the grass. A shaggy-maned, bearded male leans on his elbow and holds by the handle what appears to be a spade or perhaps trident. Another male, heavy, bearded, sits across from him. A female with a seeming crown of leaves sits between them, her chin resting on her right hand. This is identified as a detail from an engraving after Raphael; it is obviously also related to Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass." (Virginia K. Anderson 04/03/95)
