Etcher; born in Rouen Georges Le Meilleur was born in Rouen into a family of textile industrials. Breaking away from family tradition, he moved to Paris. At the age of 21, he enrolled in the Fine Arts School of Paris, the Cormon studio. He visited southern France, Brittany and Venice, but found his greatest inspiration in the landscapes of Ile-de-France and Normandy. Le Meilleur was an engraver as well as a painter. His first drypoint engraving dates from 1882. He also had a particular passion for trees.
