Born 1914 as the Marquis of Barsento. He was a decorated Italian Air Force Pilot in WWII and also a ski instructor. In 1936 enrolled at eed College, Oregon and designed the uniform for the ski team. A Harper's Bazaar photographer spotted him and his designs for his friends on the ski slopes of Switzerland in 1947. In 1951, he opened his first boutique in Capri, debuting the capri pant and other resort clothing. His clothes, featuring wildly colorful prints became very popular in America and Europe during the 1960s and 1970s. After his death the house allied with LVMH. Christian Lacroix was artistic director from 2002 - 2006, followed by Matthew Williamson (as of 5/07). Peter Dundas was named designer in March 2010.
