Gift of Mrs. D.L. Wemple

Jean Neder: Continuous serpentine scroll pattern with repeated flower and plumed leaf design. Footing is s double row of buttonhole stitches over thread base, decorated with loops and picots. Engrelure or heading made of pillow lace, worked together with the body of the lace by buttonhole stitching, indicating this is the original heading. Single picoyed brides form the background, buttonhole stitched cordonnet forms the design outline. The ladder effect of the serpentine line is unusual in that it is warpped stitch. The heading is slightly worn in places, one end is cut, the other finished with edging. Ref: Les Points de Venise, Librarie des Arts Decoratifs, Plate 9.
