Gift of Katherine Westphal
A basket woven from commercial cotton fabric on which the artist printed a single wood block impression of a rabbit (black on white) then silk screened a background of dark green speckles on medium brown. He adhered the printed cloth to paper to stiffen it and cut it into narrow strips, which he plaited so that the individual elements would align to re-form the image of the rabbit. The woodblock, which the artist purchased in Iran and used in several other works, is now in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.--(From a personal interview with Katherine Westphal by Diane Mott on 3/18/2007).
