Patchwork “crazy” quilt made from thirty-six pieced squares of textile fragments derived from furnishings and costumes, along with several commemorative ribbons. Commemorative ribbons read: “Ely/ re-union/ July, 10th/ 1878,” “Children’s/ Day/ July 4th/ 1883,” “Fourth/ of/ July/ 1883/ Choir,” and “Thy/ Will/ Be Done on/ Earth/ As It/ ___ [illegible]/ Heaven”. Silk or cotton embroidery throughout in feather, chain, buttonhole, cretan, and satin stitches; embroidery designs include motifs of animals, wreaths, and figures, including two freed slaves with the text “we’s gwine norf/ good bye Dixie”.
