Jean Neder: The moving sea forms in this [iece were created freehand by the worker ' a tutte copie', skillfully twisitng and crossing many bobbins, yet pausing often to vary the solid forms with charming chiaroscuro treatment. The proportion of pattern to ground also is remarkably varied and beautiful. A bobbin edge of delicate and suitable pattern finished the collar bottom. The top is finished with a narrow band of crochet. Compare with 25683, 25703. These Italian forms appear to have greatly influenced the making of early bobbin laces. Allover design is similar to Binche lace, and is worked with heavy threads.
