A carpet in almost square format woven by Saryk of the Pende area, not far from the border between Turkmenistan and Afhganistan. The carpet is very atypical of Saryks in color, with extensive use of insect red and and an unusual dark green that is somewhat characteristic of older pieces. The "kilim" section along the bottom is not original.-Poullada/Blackmon/Mott exam-11/2006.
