In an enigmatic setting replete with mystical objects an angel sits, head on her hand, in the company of a putti and a sleeping dog.
Sad winged figure (angel) seated head in hand gazing mournfully. Tools of carpentry and masonry near feet. Closed book and calipers in the folds of the long gown. A serious cherub perched on a column quietly writes on a tablet. A large half-cut block of masonry sits nearby untouched. Depressed dog sleeps. Scales, bell, hourglass hang nearby. As the sun sets behind a rainbow bat-like creature flies by with a banner inscribed Melencolia 1. Melancholy. Nails, hammer, ladder.
