Born Isabel Vivienne Swire. Moved with family to London at age 17, studied briefly at Harrow School of Art, but swtiched to a teacher-training course and became a primary school teacher, selling her hand-made jewelry from a stall in Portobello Market. Married Derek Westwood, 1962 and had a son, Benjamin. Relationship with entrepreneur Malcolm McLaren led to opening of boutique in World's End, London (1971), which has had various names: Let it Rock, Sex, Too Fast to Live Too Young to Die, Seditionaries, and World's End. Association with punk and Sex Pistols brought notoriety. Malcolm and Vivienne have a son, Joseph. First runway collection presented 1981. Awarded DBE(Dame of the British Empire) 2006. Now married to Andreas Kronthaler.
