Born in Dairen, Manchuria on March 3, 1913. Woman artist, specializing in calligraphy and sumi drawings. Lives in Tokyo.lithographer; Shinoda studied calligraphy from the age of eight, learning from her father. She began to convert this discipline into abstract compositions in the late 1940's, and during the following decade achieved international visibility, participating in numerous group and solo exhibitions and executing a number of mural projects. In 1960 Shinoda took up lithography, a printmaking method that allowed her to reproduce the effect of ink brushed onto paper. Volk, Alicia.
