Studied at the Bradleys Dressmaking School. London. Made a director of the house of Richard Alan, Dublin at age 22 and opened her own establishment in 1953, Famous for her use of native Irish textiles - linen, Donegal tweed and Irish crochet - in sophisticated designs. Her designs were popular with Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, among others. For her signature pleated handkerchief linen, she used nine yards to create one yard of pleated fabric. She also designed a wide variety of objects for interior decor, as well as pottery, crystal and china for Tiffany. She is always considered an Irish designer despite her actual birthplace.
