From dept. binders: The red velvet is cut and uncut to create value contrast in the tone-on-tone floral design. here is interesting alteration of small and large designs, close values and high value contrast, small geometric repeats and large organic repeats. The red velvet design contrasts well with the gold brocade designs. The small geometric motif is a diamond repeat, and the large organic floral motif is bilateral symmetry. The execution of the work and the design integration are both excellent. The piece is in excellent condition, although some repair work has been done to the brocade(V.B.)
