Born in Venice ca. 1825. Naturalized British citizen. Partner of James Robertson 1853-1856 in Malta, Constantinople, Athens, Palestine, Egypt, Syria. Documented in the Indian Mutiny 1857 with Robertson. Studio with Shepherd in Calcutta 1858-1859.Alone to China 1860, documented Second Opium War.Settled in Japan 1862-late 1870s with studio in Yokohama, sold negatives to von Stillfried.Korea 1871.Nile and wars in the Sudan 1884-1885. From 1880’s a merchant and antique dealer in Burma, stores sold in 1907 after his death. Images sigtned either f. Beato or A. Beato (which caused confusion with his brother Antoine, a photographer in Luxor, Egypt.
