Gift of Mrs. D.L. Wemple

Jean Neder: This is a rare 17th c. lace, worked to resemble Point Plat or coraline Point needlepoint lace. Very fine, narrow bobbin tape worked simultaneously with the lace into a scroll pattern, with suggestions of scattered flowers. Upper border of repeated simple scroll pattern, with solid cloth stitch footing. Lower edge finished with five-petal flower repeat on narrow tape border. Brides picotees join design areas, linen threads used throughout. many picots are missing or worn off, brides are very fragile.
