This small bag appears to be a young girl's learning piece, almost a sampler. It is patterned with a central hooked medallion and small medallions in each corner. The primary border on the two sides is completely reciprocal, but the lower and upper are elaborated with additional forms, especially the upper border, which also adds several colors. The outer border starts with the barber pole design, which is truncated about a third of the way up the bag and replaced by horizontal stripes. Narrow pattern borders along the edges of the bag at its opening are pattenerned with complementary wefts. Four long, irregularly spaced cords terminating in short tassels hang from the bottom of the bag. Part of the cord forming the handle is not original.
