Bequest of Ruth Haas Lilienthal

A fantastical portrait of a rhinoceros seen in profile.

This rhinoceros wears a skin of plated and layered armor of scales, ridges, bumps and protrusions. The animal has furred ears, scales on its legs, cloven hooves and an odd bristled tail. Despite its monstrous appearance its expression is calm and benign.
